Second Stage Theater's world premiere production of D.A. Mindell鈥檚 On the Evolutionary Function of Shame, which is staged at the The Irene Diamond Stage at The Pershing Square Signature Center, officially opens February 26. The play began previews February 12.
Directed by Jess McLeod, the production stars Jordan Barbour (The Inheritance), Kayli Carter (I鈥檒l Be Right There), Elizabeth Ramos (On That Day In Amsterdam), Imani Russell (How to Dance in Ohio), Cody Sloan (Seven Deadly Sins), and Ryan Jamaal Swain (Pose).
On the Evolutionary Function of Shame is an exploration of identity, family, and the courage it takes to live authentically. Centering on the relationship between Adam (a transgender man expecting a child) and his twin sister, Eve (a scientist), their complex relationship between the pair comes to a head when Eve offers her brother cutting-edge prenatal services, with neither fully grasping the ramifications of her offer.
The production features scenic design by You-Shin Chen, costume design by Hahnji Jang, lighting design by Barbara Samuels, sound design by Bailey Trierweiler and casting by The Telsey Office's Charlie Hano and Karyn Casl.
