Little Island has revealed the programming for its second annual summer season, including multiple world premieres and theatrical delights. Beginning May 29 and running through September 28, the season takes over both of the open-air performance spaces鈥擳he Amph and The Glade鈥攚ithin the park to transform the small island in the Hudson River into an artist haven.
Little Island will present 110 live performances this season by and featuring more than 300 artists. Tickets to all shows at The Amph are $25, and all shows at The Glade are free to the public. The following is a selection of the theatrical offerings available.
One of the world premieres will be a new adaptation of A Beggar's Opera; titled The Counterfeit Opera, the piece reimagines John Gay鈥檚 ballad opera from 1728 with a new book and lyrics by Kate Tarker, music by Dan Schlosberg, and direction by Dustin Wills.
The production will star Tony nominee Damon Daunno, Tony winner Lauren Patten, Drama League nominee Zenzi Williams, and OCC winner Ann Harada, with Christopher Bannow, Sola Fadiran, Rob Kellog, Dorcas Leung, Daniel Liu, Katerina McCrimmon, Leonardo Khan, Emma Ramos, and Henry Stram. Running May 29鈥揓une 15 at The Amph, all performances will be at 8:30 PM.
Wills will lead an extensive creative team, including arranger and music director Dan Schlosberg, choreographer Rosie Herrera, scenic designers Lisa Laratta and Dustin Wills, costume designer Rodrigo Mu帽oz, lighting designer Barbara Samuels, sound designer Sun Hee Kil, casting director Taylor Williams, and production stage manager Kasson Marroquin.
Additionally, Obie winner Shayok Misha Chowdhury will direct a new production of The Gospel at Colonus starring Grammy nominees Kim Burrell and Dav贸ne Tines; Tony winner Rachel Chavkin will stage Sarah Gancher鈥檚 Bluegrass adaptation of Tchaikovsky鈥檚 Eugene Onegin; and Tony nominee Whitney White will premiere a Shakespeare-inspired song cycle titled The Case of the Stranger.
