鈥淧itch Perfect 2鈥� breezed past the first 鈥淧itch Perfect鈥� film ($115.4 million). Released May 15, "Pitch Perfect 2" was the second chapter in the story about an all-female a cappella college singing group called The Barden Belles.
With a score of pop hits, "Pitch Perfect 2" was directed by , with a script by Kay Cannon, based on characters in Mickey Rapkin's book, 鈥淧itch Perfect: The Quest for Collegiate A Cappella Glory.鈥�
The industry source reports that producers Universal and Gold Circle have begun negotiations with Cannon to pen the third installment.
Also, no word yet on whether the third film would again star , who also toplined two other musical films in the last seven months (鈥淚nto the Woods鈥� and 鈥淭he Last Five Years鈥�). She earned a Tony Award nomination at age 12 for her performance in High Society.
"Pitch Perfect 2" still has a way to go before it surpasses worldwide grosses of 鈥淔rozen鈥� ($1.27 billion) and 鈥淭he Lion King鈥� ($987.5 million). The top-grossing non-animated musical was 鈥淢amma Mia!鈥� ($610 million).
