The play will begin performances at the Duke of York's Theatre Feb. 24, prior to an official opening March 1, for a run through March 26. The production will feature original cast member reprising his performance in the title role, newly joined by Amanda Drew as his daughter Anne. Her theatre credits include Three Days in the Country (National Theatre), Love and Information (Royal Court) and Enron (Royal Court, West End) whilst TV credits include "EastEnders."
The cast also includes Rebecca Charles Brian Doherty, Daniel Flynn and Jade Williams.
After its West End return, the production will embark on a U.K. regional tour, beginning at Guildford's Yvonne Arnaud Theatre March 28, then continuing to Truro's Hall for Cornwall, London's Richmond Theatre, Newcastle's Theatre Royal, Brighton Theatre Royal, Birmingham Rep and Cheltenham's Everyman.
Presented in a translation by , it is directed by and features Kenneth Cranham in the title role of a man, now 80 years old, who is exhibiting signs of the onset of dementia. The production is designed by Miriam Buether, with lighting by Guy Hoare and sound by . It is presented in the West End by Theatre Royal Bath Productions, the Tricycle Theatre and Simon Friend.
Cranham was Tony-nominated in New York for his role in Stephen Daldry's An Inspector Calls. Macdonald has worked extensively Off-Broadway, where he was recently the winner of the 2014 Obie Award for Best Director for Caryl Churchill's Love and Information. Drew's London stage credits include Three Days in the Country (National Theatre), Love and Information (Royal Court) and Enron (Royal Court, West End).
The Father will also receive its Broadway premiere this spring in a different production, being presented under the auspices of Manhattan Theatre Club at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre that will star Frank Langella, as previously announced
Zeller's other plays include The Mother, winner of the Moliere Award, France鈥檚 highest theatrical honor, which is currently receiving its London premiere at the Tricycle Theatre, in another transfer from Bath's Ustinov, running through March 12. As previously reported , Zeller has also lined up a third London opening for this year with the U.K premiere of The Truth, beginning performances March 10 prior to an official opening March 16, for a run through May 7 at the Menier Chocolate Factory.
