A new Game of Thrones musical is coming.
Written by composer-librettist Alex Ratner, a musical parody prequel to HBO鈥檚 hit series Game of Thrones will receive a workshop March 18 at 7:30PM at downtown鈥檚 Dixon Place.
The three-person musical features two-time Tony nominee Alison Fraser (The Secret Garden, Romance/Romance) as Olenna Tyrell, Kerstin Anderson (My Fair Lady) as Margaery Tyrell, and Chris Dwan (Finding Neverland) as Loras Tyrell.
Natalie Dormer, Diana Rigg, and Finn Jones in Game of ThronesHBO
Directed by Jenny Leon, Tyrell is the untold story of Olenna, Loras, and Margaery. Of all the houses in Westeros (the fictional land of GoT), House Tyrell is the sole dynasty led by a woman, Olenna. 鈥淐ommenting on Margaery鈥檚 objectification, Loras鈥 double life as the closeted 鈥楰night of Flowers鈥 and Olenna鈥檚 role as resident battle-ax grandma, Tyrell imagines what these secondary characters were thinking all along,鈥 reads a statement from the musical鈥檚 creative team. 鈥淲elcome to Highgarden, oasis of female leadership and sexual tolerance within a not-too-distant medieval patriarchy.鈥
The workshop will feature music direction by Paul Staroba.
The theatre connections don鈥檛 stop there. HBO鈥檚 Olenna was played by Diana Rigg, who made a triumphant return to Broadway as Mrs. Higgins in the current Lincoln Center Theater revival of My Fair Lady鈥攆or which she earned a Tony nomination. Anderson is the current alternate for Eliza Doolittle in the production, playing one performance a week as the cockney flower girl.
The Broadway alum's golden vocals brought Old Deuteronomy from Cats and the Lion from The Wiz to life, along with Oogie Boogie in The Nightmare Before Christmas.
