Two-time Oscar winner Glenda Jackson, who is currently playing the title character in King Lear in a production of the Shakespeare classic at London鈥檚 Old Vic Theatre, may repeat her work on Broadway.
reports that the Old Vic producing team is working with commercial producers Sonia Friedman, Bob Bartner, and Scott Rudin to explore the idea of transferring the production to both the West End and Broadway in 2017.
In previews since October 25, the production officially opened November 4 for a run through December 3. Directed by Deborah Warner, this Lear also features William Chubb, Morfydd Clark, Jane Horrocks, Rhys Ifans, Celia Imrie, Simon Manyonda, and Harry Melling, plus Fiston Barek, Gary Sefton, and Clifford Rose.
An Old Vic spokesperson told the London paper that 鈥渘othing is confirmed鈥� about a King Lear transfer.
Jackson鈥檚 work spans theatre, film, and television. She earned her two Academy Awards for Women in Love and A Touch of Class. She's been nominated for four Tony Awards, for Macbeth (1988), Strange Interlude (1985), Rose (1981), and Marat/Sade (1966). Between 1992 and 2015 she served as a Member of Parliament, representing constituencies in Hampstead and Kilburn. This play marks her return to the stage for the first time in a quarter of a century.
