The Goodman Theatre has confirmed that actor Stacy Keach experienced a mild heart attack onstage during the May 30 opening night performance of Pamplona鈥擩im McGrath鈥檚 world-premiere solo play about a late-in-life Earnest Hemingway.
鈥淜each is expected to make a complete recovery following a period of cardiac rehabilitation and rest,鈥 according to the Goodman.
The performance was halted midway after Keach appeared ill and confused onstage. On June 2, the Goodman announced that the entire run of the play had been canceled in order to allow Keach to recover.
鈥淥n behalf of Stacy Keach, his family and the Goodman, we would like to extend our gratitude for all of the generous support and concern shown to Stacy this past week,鈥 Artistic Director Robert Falls said in a statement. 鈥淚 remain awed by Stacy鈥檚 courage and strength after experiencing such a disturbing event; his spirits are high and he is resting and recovering comfortably. Jim, Stacy and I look forward to continuing our collaboration on Pamplona.鈥
