Theatre for a New Audience has announced its 2016-17 season at the Polonsky Shakespeare Center in Brooklyn. Included in the slate: a production of Samuel Beckett鈥檚 Happy Days starring Dianne Wiest; Steven Epp in The Servant of Two Masters; and Measure for Measure, directed by London鈥檚 National Theatre鈥檚 Simon Godwin.
TFNA also confirmed earlier reports that the Sam Gold-directed Hamlet starring Oscar Isaac slated for summer 2017 has been canceled. A press statement cited the cancellation due to 鈥渢he unilateral withdrawals of director Sam Gold and Oscar Isaac who intended to play the title role.鈥�
The season will begin November 6 with Carlo Goldoni鈥檚 The Servant of Two Masters, adapted by Constance Congdon from a translation by Christina Sibul, featuring Steven Epp and directed by Christopher Bayes in his New York premiere. Performances will run through December 4.
The season continues in February 2017 with Thornton Wilder鈥檚 The Skin of Our Teeth, directed by Arin Arbus. The director returns to TFNA following her acclaimed productions of A Doll鈥檚 House and The Father. Performances are set to run February 12-March 19.
In April, the Brooklyn venue will stage Yale Repertory Theatre鈥檚 production of Happy Days, directed by James Bundy and featuring Wiest. Beckett鈥檚 classic play will run April 23-May 28.
In June and July the season will conclude with a new production of Shakespeare鈥檚 Measure for Measure, helmed by Godwin. The show will run June 17-July 16.
