Rehearsals are underway for the Transport Group鈥檚 upcoming production of The Unsinkable Molly Brown, which will be presented February 8鈥揗arch 22, 2020, at the Abrons Arts Center. This reworked version of Meredith Willson鈥檚 musical, seen regionally at the Denver Center Theatre Company and the St. Louis Muny, will officially open February 26.
Tony nominee () stars in the title role, joined by David Aron Damane () as JJ, () as Julia, Omar Lopez-Cepero (On Your Feet!) as Vincenzo, Alex Gibson () as Erich, and Paolo Montalban () as Arthur.
Rounding out the cast are Kaitlyn Davidson, Tyrone Davis, Jr., Gregg Goodbrod, Michael Halling, Karl Josef Co, , Kate Marilley, Shina Ann Morris, Keven Quillon, and CoCo Smith.
The Unsinkable Molly Brown has music and lyrics by Willson (), with additional songs from his catalog, and a new book (based on the original by Richard Morris) and new lyrics by Tony nominee (Thoroughly Modern Millie, Renascence). The music is adapted by Michael Rafter (), and the production is directed and choreographed by three-time Tony winner (Anything Goes, The Pajama Game).
The musical tells the rags-to-riches story of Margaret 鈥淢olly鈥� Brown鈥攁 turn-of-the-century hero of the underdog, champion of women鈥檚 rights, fighter for labor rights, advocate of immigration reform鈥攁nd, most famously, survivor of the Titanic. A love story about a woman who rejected the notion that it鈥檚 a man鈥檚 world, this new Molly Brown portrays Molly as she really was鈥攙ibrant, progressive, modern.
The production will also have scenic design by Brett Banakis, costume design by Sky Switser, with gowns for Malone by , lighting design by , sound design by Walter Trarbach, music direction by Joey Chancey, and casting by Nora Brennan. The stage manager is Victoria Navarro.
