The evening will feature piano duo Bill Charlap and Renee Rosnes鈥� jazz treatments of Sondheim masterpieces鈥攆rom groundbreaking shows like Company, Follies and Sweeney Todd. The concert will also include the talents of Steve Wilson, alto & soprano sax; Renee Rosnes, piano; Sean Smith, bass; Matt Wilson, drums; and Scott Dunn, conductor. The String Ensemble comprises Emily Bruskin Yarbrough, concertmaster; Sean Carney, Cenovia Cummins, Robert Zubrycki, violin; Carla Fabiani, Liuh-Wen Ting, viola; and Stephanie Cummins, Sarah Seiver, cello.
Hammerstein Before Rodgers, which will explore Oscar Hammerstein's career before his numerous hits with Richard Rogers, will be offered Sept. 17 at noon in the Classroom at the Lexington Avenue venue. The afternoon will feature a discussion of Hammerstein's work with , , and others, led by Oscar Andrew Hammerstein, biographer and grandson of Oscar Hammerstein.
On Sept. 20 , who will make his Broadway debut in the upcoming new musical , will chat with president and owner . George Takei with Jordan Roth, which will begin at 8:15 PM in the Buttenieser Hall, will explore how Takei's experiences in an internment camp for Japanese Americans inspired the forthcoming Broadway musical.
92Y will celebrate the 90th birthday of stage and screen star Oct. 13 at 7:30 PM with Dick Van Dyke in Conversation. Van Dyke will recall his storied career as well as his new book, "Keep Moving: And Other Tips and Truths About Old Age." A book signing will follow the evening, which will be held in the Kaufmann Concert Hall.
