News John Doyle Tapped for August Rush Stage Musical Tony Award-winning director John Doyle will helm a developmental lab of the new stage musical adaptation of "August Rush," based on the 2007 film of the same title about a young musician who journeys to New York City in search of his birth parents, according to an Equity casting notice.

As previously reported, original book writer is collaborating with Grammy Award-winning composer on the musical that is being developed with Warner Brothers along with CJ Entertainment and producer Richard B. Lewis.

Mancina penned the orchestral score to the film that tells the story of an orphaned musical prodigy who ventures to New York in the hopes that his musical talents will help him find his birth parents.

The breakdown indicates that several characters in the musical will play their own instruments.

Doyle is a Tony winner for his actor-musician staging of . He has also helmed Company, and the recent staging of Kander and Ebb's The Visit.

August Rush, which will be developed during a Nov. 13-Dec. 10 lab, will have choreography by Sam Pinkleton and musical direction by .
