The Great Comet marked the Broadway debut of Groban, who earned raves from critics and a Tony Award nomination for Best Lead Actor in a Musical. Groban鈥檚 casting secured the unconventional show鈥檚 move to Broadway last October.

Groban will be succeeded by former Hamilton cast member Okieriete 鈥淥ak鈥� Onaodowan, who is now scheduled to begin performances as Pierre on July 11. Through July 9, the role is played by the show鈥檚 Tony-nominated creator (and original Off-Broadway Pierre), Dave Malloy.
Created by Malloy and directed by Rachel Chavkin, opened at Broadway鈥檚 Imperial Theatre November 14, 2016. The production received 12 Tony Award nominations, the most of the season, and won for scenic and lighting design.
