Kafka's work is no stranger to the stage, however. In 1952, Kafka's "Les Proces" was presented at the Ziegfeld Theatre, and in 1989, starred in the Broadway production of  at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre.

"Kafkapalooza" will feature eight original works based on stories originally written by Franz Kafka. Featured writers include Brett Neveu and Ike Holter.

Holter's work, which is based on Kafka's "The Metamorphosis," the story of a man who wakes up one day to discover he has turned into a roach, will be told by onstage gossip rather than actually watching a man become a roach. Said Holter in a statement, "A lot of my shows are about people who are on the brink of being torn apart by circumstance. I鈥檓 fascinated by when people choose to fight back, which is the opposite of what Kafka shows."

Fellow playwright Neveu says, "It鈥檚 always the marginalized who are affected by people in power and who are broken as a result. I think that speaks to the human story."
