Entitled The Nutcracker and the Four Realms, the live-action motion picture is based on The Nutcracker and the Mouse King and casts stage and screen star Knightley as the Sugar Plum Fairy. The cast will also feature ballet superstar Misty Copeland, who made her Broadway debut in On the Town, and Oscar winner Morgan Freeman. Mackenzie Foy will play Clara.
In the film, Variety reports, 鈥渙ne of Clara鈥檚 Christmas toys 鈥� a Nutcracker doll 鈥� comes to life and battles the evil Mouse King with seven heads.鈥�
Ashleigh Powell penned the script, which will be directed by Lasse Hallstr枚m. No timetable for the new film has been announced.
