City of Hope, the California-based cancer and diabetes research and treatment center, will present its 2017 Spirit of Life award to Tony Award-winning star Kelli O'Hara in recognition of 鈥減ersonal perseverance and philanthropy鈥� in the fight against pancreatic cancer, a disease that took the life of her mother-in-law.
The charity described the star of Broadway鈥檚 The King and I and The Bridges of Madison County as 鈥渁 passionate advocate for the early detection of pancreatic cancer.鈥�
She is scheduled to accept the award from fellow TV and stage star Michael McKean (currently on Broadway in The Little Foxes) at the charity鈥檚 annual , 12:15 PM May 8 at The Plaza Hotel in New York City.
Along with O鈥橦ara, Iris Dankner and Lisa Fuld will receive Spirit of Life Awards as well.
The event will cap a busy week for O鈥橦ara, who is also scheduled to be honored May 1 at the New York Pops鈥� annual Carnegie Hall gala.
