The acclaimed 2016 Abbey Theatre and Royal Court production of David Ireland鈥檚 Cyprus Avenue will play a limited Off-Broadway engagement at The Public Theater this summer.

Stephen Rea, who led the cast of the runs in London and Ireland, will return to the show for its American premiere; he will be joined by original cast members Chris Corrigan and Amy Molloy.

Performances of Cyprus Avenue will begin June 2 and run through July 29 in the Public鈥檚 LuEsther Hall. The production is directed by Royal Court Artistic Director Vicky Featherstone, and will officially open June 25.

Cyprus Avenue tells the story of a British man in Ireland trying to make sense of a radically changed world. A Belfast Unionist and 鈥渘on-negotiably British,鈥 his sanity begins to unravel when he discovers a likeness between his new-born granddaughter and the Irish republican leader, Gerry Adams.

The new play received acclaimed engagements at London's Royal Court, Dublin鈥檚 Peacock Stage at the Abbey Theatre, and the MAC in Belfast.

Additional casting for the Off-Broadway production will be announced at a later date.

鈥Cyprus Avenue is a scathingly funny and horrifyingly entertaining look at bigotry gone mad,鈥 said Public Theater Artistic Director Oskar Eustis in a statement. 鈥淎nchored by Stephen Rea鈥檚 tour de force performance, this play may take place in Ireland, but it speaks to the heart of America. The Public is proud to continue our long-standing relationships with the Abbey Theatre in Dublin and the Royal Court in London, two of the finest theaters in the world, with this production of Cyprus Avenue.鈥

Public Theater Partner and Supporter tickets will be available beginning March 13, and Member tickets will be available March 15. Single tickets, starting at $80, will be available March 29 and can be accessed by calling (212) 967-7555, visiting, or in person at the Taub Box Office at The Public Theater at 425 Lafayette Street.
