Lucille Lortel Theatre will present a benefit reading of GENIUS, a new musical comedy based on Patrick Dennis' 1962 novel of the same name, April 14 at 7 PM. The work features a book by Michael Heitzman and Ilene Reid, music and lyrics by Reid, and Spanish lyric translation by Jaime Lozano. Lortel Artistic Director of New Musical Development Michael Heitzman will direct the reading.
The cast will feature Matthew Broderick, Douglas Sills, Johanna Carlisle-Zepeda, Natascia Diaz, Jason Forbach, Eddie Korbich, Kara Lindsay, Kate Loprest, Beth Malone, Lesli Margherita, Judy McLane, Diego Andres Rodriguez, Eliseo Rom谩n, Phillip Taratula, and Jacob Keith Watson.
Set in the 1960s, GENIUS follows Hollywood director Leander Starr. Fleeing creditors, the IRS, and miscellaneous ex-wives, Starr escapes to Mexico City where he runs into legendary Auntie Mame author, Patrick Dennis.
The creative team will include orchestrator and arranger Steve Bishop, music supervisor David Holcenberg, and music director Alan J. Plado.
