The work tells the story of aspiring poet Maya Mehta in the midst of the Indian independence movement.

惭腻测腻: The Musical, penned by Cheeyang Ng (Fat, Femme, AsianThe Phoenix) and Eric Sorrels (The Phoenix), will have an invite-only industry workshop February 21 at London's @sohoplace. Olivier nominee Milli Bhatia will direct the work.

Set in 1930s British India, 惭腻测腻: The Musical tells the story of Maya Mehta, an aspiring poet who dreams of making her mark on the world amidst the turmoil of the Indian independence movement. Ng previously presented material from 惭腻测腻 via the 半岛体育 Songwriter Series, still available to stream.

The cast will feature Sharvari Deshpande (We All Know How This EndsThe Crucible) as Maya, Irfan Damani (Les Mis茅rablesThe Time Traveller's Wife) as Lawrence, Raj Ghatak (Bombay DreamsThe Kite Runner) as Rohit, Sonya Venugopal (Life of Pi) as Harini, Shobna Gulati (Everybody's Talking About JamieDinnerladies) as Gayatri, and Hassun Sharif (HamiltonPretty Woman) as Darwesh. 

The ensemble will include Jamal Zulfiwar (Come From AwayLegally Blonde), Minal Patel (Oliver!Wicked), Ritesh Manugula (My Fair LadyWind in the Willows), Katie Stasi (MadagascarPop Off, Michelangelo!), Maya Bassi Curtis (The World Goes RoundWe All Know How This Ends), and Diya Sohi (The Beaker GirlsThe Silver Lining). Casting is by Sarah Jane Price, with Ben Armstrong as casting associate. 

The production will feature choreography by Chi San Howard, sound design by Aidan Jones, orchestrations by Anthony Lucca, and musical direction by Yshani Perinpanayagam. General management is by Ameena Hamid and Grace Dickson of HD General Management. The team of musicians will include Eric Fegan, Noah Hadland, and Rachel Espeute.
