Little Shop of Horrors stars Milo Manheim and Elizabeth Gillies have been struck with illness.
The duo have not performed in the hit Off-Broadway revival of Alan Menken and Howard Ashman's cult classic since March 18. News of their absence was announced on the production's social media, The pair, who play Seymour and Audrey, respectively, are out due an undisclosed illness, and it is unclear when they will return to the production. The March 20 show will go on as planned, though ticket buyers are encouraged to contact their point of purchase if they want to switch performances.
Gillies and Manheim began performances March 5, alongside Broadway favorite Jeremy Kushnier (Footloose, Jesus Christ Superstar) as Dr. Orin Scrivello.
The current company at the Westside Theatre also includes Tony nominee Reg Rogers (The Dazzle, Merrily We Roll Along) as Mushnik, Major Attaway as The Voice of Audrey II, Tiffany Renee Thompson as Ronnette, Daria Pilar Redus as Crystal, Morgan Ashley Bryant as Chiffon, as well as Teddy Yudain, Weston Chandler Long, Savannah Lee Birdsong, Camryn Hampton, Jeff Sears, Michael Iannucci, Jonothon Lyons, Noel MacNeal, Johnny Newcomb, and Christine Wanda.
Previous players in the roles of Seymour and Audrey Off-Broadway have included Jonathan Groff, Tammy Blanchard, Jeremy Jordan, Lena Hall, Maude Apatow, Gideon Glick, Rob McClure, Skylar Astin, Conrad Ricamora, Matt Doyle, Darren Criss, Evan Rachel Wood, Corbin Bleu, Constance Wu, Sarah Hyland, Andrew Barth Feldman, Sherie Rene Scott, Nicholas Christopher, and RuPaul's Drag Race winner Jinkx Monsoon, who became first drag queen to play Audrey in a major production of the musical.
The Off-Broadway revival began previews September 17, 2019, prior to an official opening October 17; the production resumed its run September 21, 2021, after temporarily closing in March 2020 due to the pandemic.
Director Michael Mayer's creative team for the Howard Ashman-Alan Menken musical also includes choreographer Ellenore Scott, scenic designer Julian Crouch, lighting designer Bradley King, costume designer Tom Broecker, sound designer Jessica Paz, puppet designer Nicholas Mahon, original puppet designer Martin P. Robinson, hair and makeup designer Tommy Kurzman, music supervisor, orchestrator, and arranger Will Van Dyke, and casting director Jim Carnahan. Puppets are by Monkey Boys Productions.
General management is by Live Wire Theatrical/Chris Aniello, and production stage management is by Pamela Remler.
