News New Gershwin Musical A Damsel in Distress Opens Tonight With Summer Strallen, Richard Fleeshman A Damsel in Distress, a stage version of the 1937 film of the same name with songs by Ira and George Gershwin at Chichester Festival Theatre, opens June 10, following previews that began May 30, for a run through June 27.

directs and choreographs a cast that includes (seen on Broadway reprising the role he originated in the West End's Ghost), Summer Strallen (the West End's Top Hat), (The Last Ship on Broadway), Isla Blair and Nicholas Farrell.



The musical has a book by and Robert Hudson, based on the novel by and the play by P.G. Wodehouse and Ian Hay. Bringing together a world-weary American composer (played by Fleeshman), a beautiful and irrepressible English socialite, a fierce aunt and other eccentric characters, the action moves from the glamour of London's Savoy Theatre to the charm of a castle in the country.

Also in the cast are Richard Dempsey, Melle Stewart, Mairi Barclay, Chris Bennett, Stephanie Bron, Sam Harrison, Chloe Hart, Matthew Hawksley, Kirby Hughes, Harry Morrison, David Roberts, Jonathan Stewart, Lucie-Mae Sumner, Laura Tyrer, Alan Vicary and Matt Wilman.



The production is designed by with musical supervision by Broadway's , musical direction by Alan Williams, orchestrations by Bill Elliot, lighting by Howard Harrison and sound by Paul Groothuis.
