Tony Award-winning composer Jason Robert Brown has announced guests for his upcoming concerts at SubCulture, the Greenwich Village cabaret where he is artist-in-residence and has been hosting a monthly series for the past three years.
He will be joined April 24 by Betsy Wolfe, who starred in the Off-Broadway revival of his musical, The Last Five Years, and who was recently named to replace composer Sara Bareilles June 13 when she completes her stint in the leading role of her own Broadway musical, Waitress. Shoshana Bean (Wicked) will join Brown for the May 19 concert. On June 12, the day after the 2017 Tony Awards, Brown will host his third annual 鈥淧ost-Tony Extravaganza鈥 concert, with guests to be announced.
Brown said, 鈥淏etsy Wolfe is the consummate singer, absolutely flawless technique merged with a sensational sense of character and drama. She was the perfect Cathy for my revival of Last Five Years in 2013, and she鈥檇 be perfect for basically anything I鈥檝e ever written (which we plan to demonstrate!).鈥
He added, 鈥淎nd there鈥檚 no one in the world with a better instinct for how to bring my music to life than Shoshana Bean鈥攚e鈥檝e been collaborating for almost ten years now, and every concert is another huge and thrilling step forward. She鈥檒l be singing some new songs of mine and I hope to entice her to share some of her own wonderful material with us as well.鈥About the post-Tony concert, he said, 鈥淚 love the idea of recovering from all the Tony Awards madness by just spending one glorious night focusing on nothing but the music. I鈥檒l have lots of wonderful guests, and we鈥檙e all going to have a fantastic time celebrating the season just past.鈥
