Signature Theatre's Off-Broadway revival of Incident at Vichy, by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Arthur Miller, officially opened Nov. 15 following previews that began Oct. 27. Among the cast of the World War II-set drama, which is helmed by Michael Wilson, is Richard Thomas, who is a two-time Golden Globe nominee and Emmy winner for his long-running role in the TV series "The Waltons."
Taking place in Vichy, France, during the Nazi occupation, the play sees a group of people called into an interrogation room under suspicious circumstances in an effort to reveal the Jews among them. As foreboding rumors of concentration camps begin to circulate, the men battle over politics, philosophy and an escape. It is billed as a "haunting examination of the cold, bureaucratic efficiency of evil."
Incident at Vichy was last seen on Broadway in 1964. It returns to the Signature Theatre for the first time since Miller's residency there in 1997-98. The design team includes Jeff Cowie (scenic design), (costume design), (lighting design), (sound design), Rocco DiSanti (projection design), Deborah Hecht (dialect coach) and Mark Olsen (fight direction). Robert Bennett is the production stage manager. Casting is by Telsey + Company, Karyn Casl, CSA.
Incident at Vichy plays The Irene Diamond Stage at The Pershing Square Signature Center, located at 480 West 42nd St., Manhattan. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit or phone Ticket Services at (212) 244-7529. The piece stars Obie Award winner Jodie Markell as propagandist filmmaker Leni Riefenstahl, whose work in service of the Nazis defined the visual identity of Adolf Hitler's Third Reich.
The Broadway alum's golden vocals brought Old Deuteronomy from Cats and the Lion from The Wiz to life, along with Oogie Boogie in The Nightmare Before Christmas.
