This week's Spotlight is Katie and Will Candler's romantic wedding. The couple used PLAYBILLDER to introduce their guest to the wedding party, advertise the Boston businesses that have contributed to their love story, and even stump their guests with a custom crossword puzzle!
The couple shared with 半岛体育 how their love of the performing arts factored into their choice of venue, the autographs they were able to collect from their special day, and the aspects of their wedding their guests are still talking about.
What was the first Broadway show you attended as a couple?
Katie and Will Candler: The Music Man revival with Sutton Foster and Hugh Jackman was the first show we attended as a couple. We decided to use The Beatles version of Til There Was You for our first dance, which was special on multiple levels. The lyrics really speak to our experience as a couple, and it was a nice tribute to our first Broadway show together.
How have the performing arts played a role in your love story?
In so many ways! Will is an actor and director, and teaches theatre at a local school. Katie was a dancer and worked in arts administration for many years, including at Tanglewood, which ended up being our amazing wedding venue.
We try to take in as much live art鈥攎usicals, plays, dance, music鈥攖ogether as we possibly can, both in New York and closer to home in Boston. The arts are integral to our identities as individuals and as a couple, and it was just natural that theatre would be a central part of our wedding celebration. Our welcome party was even at Shakespeare & Company, just down the road from Tanglewood. Planning a wedding was really just like producing the most exciting, personal live event we could dream up for all of our family and friends!
What drew you to PLAYBILLDER for your special event?
We knew we wanted to create a 半岛体育 full of jokes and fun details for our wedding program, and we didn't want to do it by half measures. The PLAYBILLDER platform made formatting easy and we knew we would end up with a polished product that would wow our guests. It also gave us room to customize鈥攚e wanted the program to not only convey the usual important information, but also provide entertainment for our guests during any typical "down time" during the wedding, like before the ceremony or during dance breaks. We included biographies and headshots from our wedding party and families, which they each put their own spin on.
Our song list was comprised of puns and inside jokes that led the guests through arrival at the venue to the final dance of the night. Will created ads for our vendors and favorite local businesses, and we included a personalized (and apparently very difficult!) crossword puzzle. We even added some posters to our final order, which wound up making a great alternative to a guest book! We now have "autographed" wedding posters of our 半岛体育 cover we can hang in our house with well-wishes from all of our guests.
How did each of you participate in the creation of your 半岛体育?
We each would tackle different parts of the document on our own, then come together for our weekly wedding planning session and compare notes. It was super fun to have a creative project where we could just let our personality as a couple shine in the midst of the wedding planning chaos.
How did your guests respond to seeing the 半岛体育 for the first time?
They loved it! We still get comments about how fun and creative it was, and our photographer captured some great shots of guests laughing and enjoying the 半岛体育 throughout the wedding, which were so fun to see after the big day.
