Real Women Have Curves will release its original Broadway cast recording this summer.
Produced by Ghostlight Records, the album will be released in June. The exact date is to be announced. The album will be produced by 15-time Grammy winner Julio Reyes Copello.
While fans await the official recording, however, they can stream the EP Makin鈥 it Work with Joy (from Jesse & Joy), featuring Grammy winner Joy Huerta performing songs she co-wrote for the musical, including 鈥淢ake it Work,鈥 鈥淒aydream, 鈥淔lying Away,鈥 and 鈥淩eal Women Have Curves.鈥 The EP also features performances by Katya Diaz, Nadia DiGiallonardo, Aline Mayagoitia, and Mari Solis.
Real Women Have Curves began its Broadway run April 1 at the James Earl Jones Theatre. The show, which officially opens April 27, stars newcomer Tatianna C贸rdoba as ambitious high school senior Ana Garcia. The musical is adapted from Josefina L贸pez's 1993 play, which also had a 2002 film version.
With a score by Huerta and Benjamin Velez and a book by Lisa Loomer with Nell Benjamin, the work follows a first-generation child of Mexican immigrants torn between joining the family garment business or embarking on her own dream of attending college in NYC.
The project is being helmed by Sergio Trujillo, who's directing and choreographing. Justina Machado (One Day at a Time) plays Carmen Garcia, Ana鈥檚 hardworking mother who imagines a traditional life for her daughter. C贸rdoba and Machado are supported by Florencia Cuenca as Estela, Shelby Acosta (1776) as Prima Flaca, Carla Jimenez as Pancha, Aline Mayagoitia (SIX) as Itzel, Mason Reeves (Frozen) as Henry, Jennifer S谩nchez (Elf) as Rosal铆, Sandra Valls as Prima Fulvia, and Mauricio Mendoza as Ra煤l Garcia. Cuenca, Jimenez, Mayagoitia, Reeves, and Valls are all making their Broadway debuts in the production, and all but Mayagoitia are reprising their performances from the musical's 2024 world premiere.
The company also includes Ariana Burks, Quincy Hampton, Zeus Mendoza, Claudia Mulet, Christopher M. Ramirez, Monica Tulia Ramirez, Shadia Fairuz, Elisa Galindez, and Omar Madden.
The production has music supervision by Nadia DiGiallonardo, music direction by Roberto Sinha, scenic design by Arnulfo Maldonado, costume design by Wilberth Gonzalez and Paloma Young, lighting design by Natasha Katz, sound design by John Shivers, video design by Hana S. Kim, hair, wig, and make-up design by Krystal Balleza, and orchestrations by DiGiallonardo, Huerta, Rich Mercurio, and Velez. Casting is by X Casting's Victor Vazquez and ARC's Duncan Stewart.
Tripp Phillips serves as production stage manager, with B.J. Holt as general manager and Alecia Parker as executive producer.
