Witherspoon will also produce the film, which is titled "Tink," with her partner Bruna Papandrea.
The screenplay will be penned by Victoria Strouse. A director has not been named. No release date has been announced.
"Tink," according to the industry paper, "will play with the idea and the timeline of the well-known Peter Pan narrative. It is also being developed in the vein of 'Maleficent,'... [as] 'the story you don鈥檛 know,' and will offer a new perspective on the character."
Tinker Bell, described by Barrie as a "common fairy," also makes an appearance in the new Broadway musical .
