Karen Mason, who first worked with John Kander and the late Fred Ebb when she starred in Off-Broadway鈥檚 And the World Goes 鈥楻ound, will celebrate the work of the Broadway songwriters in an upcoming new album.
Entitled Karen Mason and All That Jazz!, the new recording will be available on CD and in digital and streaming formats October 25 from Zevely Records and King Kozmo Music, a division of the Jazzheads Music Group.
Mason is accompanied on piano by her longtime music director, Christopher Denny. The album is produced and mixed by Paul Rolnick with arrangements by Denny and Barry Kleinbort, who directed the original concert version of the show.
The forthcoming recording features Mason's take on 鈥淎ll That Jazz,鈥 鈥淢aybe This Time,鈥 and 鈥淎 Quiet Thing鈥 as well as songs from The Visit (鈥淟ove and Love Alone鈥), The Scottsboro Boys (鈥淕o Back Home鈥), and The Happy Time (鈥淭he Life of the Party鈥). Other titles include 鈥淚鈥檓 One of the Smart Ones鈥 and "My Coloring Book."
鈥淚 have always loved Kander and Ebb鈥檚 music,鈥 Mason states. 鈥淲hen I was first getting interested in theatre, I learned that most female roles were sopranos. But when I heard the cast album from Cabaret, I discovered females singing in my vocal range. And it opened up the world to me! So my connection with Kander & Ebb started very early, and they further enriched my life when I got cast in And the World Goes 鈥楻ound.鈥
