Rob Madge鈥攂est known for writing and starring in their hit show My Son鈥檚 a Queer (But What Can You Do?)鈥攖akes on Jonathan Tolins鈥 solo show Buyer & Cellar at London鈥檚 King鈥檚 Head Theatre beginning September 18.

Directed by Kirk Jameson, performances are scheduled through October 19. The production will subsequently play Theatre Royal Plymouth's The Drum October 29鈥揘ovember 2. Joseph Hewlett is the understudy for the solo play.

Inspired by Barbra Streisand's basement of storefronts in her Malibu home used to store her collection of dolls and other tchotchkes, Tolins' solo play imagines the story of Alex (Madge), an out-of-work actor who finds himself working beneath Streisand鈥檚 home in the basement shopping mall.

Michael Urie won a Drama Desk Award starring in the play's 2013 Off-Broadway premiere, a production that would ultimately transfer to a commercial Off-Broadway run of a year.

In an earlier statement Madge said, 鈥淚 am so thrilled to be taking on Buyer & Cellar. Some might think it quite the stretch for me to be playing a role that isn鈥檛 myself for once, but I cannot wait to get stuck in. Still quite camp though, so all in all, a perfect fit. This is a sublime piece of work鈥攍aughing out loud as I read the script on the tube kind of stuff鈥攁nd I鈥檓 honored to have the opportunity to be following the footsteps of Michael Urie in bringing these characters back to life. I hope to see you there!鈥

The production also has scenography by Ingrid Hu, lighting design by Jack Weir, composition and sound design by Emily Rose Simons, wig design by Craig Forrest-Thomas, production management by New Wolf Productions, stage management by Rosie Morgan, and general management by New Frame Productions.
