Written in 1926, Chicago is best known as the inspiration for the 1975 stage musical Chicago and its long-running revival, which continues at the Ambassador Theatre.
Pamela Hunt directs a cast that features Arnie Burton, Robert Creighton, Robert Cuccioli, Mara Davi, George Dvorsky, Joy Franz, Judy Gold, Jonathan Hadley, Susannah Perkins, Anna Marie Sell, and Time Out NY Theater Editor Adam Feldman.
Chicago, a satire, was based on two unrelated 1924 court cases involving two women, Beulah Annan and Belva Gaertner, who were both suspected and later acquitted for murder, whom Watkins had covered for the Chicago Tribune as a reporter.
鈥淢ost people, including fans of the great musical, don鈥檛 know this play even exists! So we鈥檙e particularly delighted to reintroduce this riotous play to New York,鈥 said Artistic Director David Staller.
