Featuring new interviews with the likes of , , Neil Simon, , Nathan Lane, , , and others, the documentary is scheduled to premiere 9 PM ET Jan. 29 as part of PBS' "American Masters" series.
Nichols, who began his career with Elaine May as "Nichols and May" in a series of wildly intelligent standup routines, which they took to Broadway and recordings, died Nov. 19, 2014.
In all, he directed 27 Broadway shows, and won eight Tony Awards, most recently for directing the 2012 revival of starring . His films include "The Graduate" and "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?" His TV projects include adaptations of the Pulitzer Prize-winning plays Wit and Angels in America.
Julian Schlossberg serves as producer. Roy Furman is executive producer.
