New Jersey's George Street Playhouse has revealed its upcoming 2025-2026 season, and with it, a new leadership model. Outgoing Artistic Director David Saint will be succeeded by three artistic producers, with Christopher J. Bailey handling production and operations, Scott Goldman handling general management and marketing, and Laiona Michelle handling artistic and creative management.
All three are promotions from the company鈥檚 existing staff. Bailey was previously the company's production manager, Goldman was formerly the company's general manager, and Michelle has served as an artistic associate since 2020 and has directed several productions. All three will work under the leadership of Edgar Herrera.
But the appointment is not intended to be permanent. The theatre's Board of Trustees will launch a national search for the company's next artistic director soon, with Bailey, Goldman, and Michelle's tenure to continue through the upcoming season.
That season will open with Joe DiPietro's An Old Fashioned Family Murder, performing October 14-November 2 and directed by Larry Raben. A comic mystery, this work launches when an egotistical writer spills a family secret, which leads to murder on a dark and stormy night at a grand estate.
Next will be Gordon Greenberg and Steve Rosen's Ebeneezer Scrooge's Big Jersey Christmas Show!, a comedic take on the Dickens classic that gives things a Garden State twist. Greenberg (The Heart of Rock and Roll) will direct, with performances running December 2-21.
Michelle will direct a production of Shayan Lofti's What Became of Us, about two siblings whose lives bring them together and apart again and again over the years, with an unshakable bond keeping them forever linked. Performances will run March 17-April 5, 2026.
The season's final production will be Deborah Brevoort's My Lord, What a Night, performing April 28-May 17. Sheldon Epps will direct the work, which centers on the unlikely friendship that developed between opera contralto Marian Anderson and Albert Einstein when the former took the professional singer in after a hotel turned her away because of her race.
Casting and full creative teams are to be announced.
