The production, made up of seven short plays, will play May 18 through June 6, and will be presented for free to one audience member at a time, inside a four-by-eight mobile theatre that will tour various public locations in New York.
The company, founded by Queen of the Night director , has also slated works by playwrights (), Lynn Nottage (Ruined), Jose Rivera (Marisol), Thomas Bradshaw (Intimacy), Zayd Dohrn (Outside People) and Emily Schwend (The Other Thing).
Each work has been specifically commissioned for production inside Theatre for One鈥檚 custom-designed, intimate mobile performance space. The show will tour the following public venues: Winter Garden Brookfield Place (May 18 鈥� 24), Zuccotti Park (May 27 鈥� 31), and Grace Building (June 2 鈥� 6).
At each performance, theatre-goers will be invited into the small theatre to experience one of the seven five-minute plays. Conceived by Jones and designed by the architecture firm LO-TEK, the small self-contained theatre, complete with lighting, sound and design, allows just enough room for one performer and one audience member, continuing Theatre for One's mission to provide theatre that is laden with emotional intimacy.
"Theatre for One creates a relationship between two people in a suspended moment of space and time," said Jones in a press statement. 鈥淭he actor gives the gift of a private performance, and the audience gives the actor the gift of their full attention. This mutual investment heightens the dramatic experience and shines a light on the narrative being shared between them." Jones is known for her award-winning work as a set designer on productions such as Let the Right One In, and . For I'm Not the Stranger You Think I Am she has partnered with Arts Brookfield and True Love Productions.
