News Sylvia, Starring Annaleigh Ashford and Matthew Broderick, Posts Closing Notice The Broadway debut of A.R. Gurney's canine-themed Sylvia will play its final performance at the Cort Theatre Jan. 3, 2016. Upon closing, the production will have played 79 performances and 27 previews.

, a Tony winner for her performance in , plays the adorable, outspoken pooch in Sylvia, which officially opened Oct. 27 following previews that began Oct. 2. She is joined by two-time Tony winner as Sylvia's owner, who is going through a midlife crisis. Broderick's Emmy-winning wife, , starred in the original Off-Broadway production of the Gurney play.

directs the Broadway staging of the 1995 play about a married couple and their beloved dog Sylvia (who can talk to the audience, yell at a passing cat and flirt with a fellow canine named Bowser); the cast also stars Tony winner () as Broderick's wife and (Stuff Happens, Sleepy Hollow, ) in a variety of roles, both male and female.

Sylvia, according to press notes, is about "what happens when a smart, sassy, captivating canine befriends a New Yorker in Central Park and changes his life鈥攁nd his wife鈥檚 life鈥攆orever. This wonderful look into the complexities of love and commitment asks what it truly means to be devoted to your partner鈥nd how do you choose between the love of your life and man鈥檚 best friend?"
