The March 21 broadcast of the ABC family drama The Fosters was a Romeo and Juliet-themed musical episode. According to , the episode was written and directed by the show鈥檚 executive producer, Bradley Bredeweg.
鈥淭his time last year, I put up a rock musical version of Romeo and Juliet here in Los Angeles on stage, and we used really cool 鈥�80s music interwoven to tell the tale of Shakespeare鈥檚 tragic love story,鈥� Bredeweg told EW. 鈥淚 just fell in love with putting those two worlds together, so when I closed the show and we got into the writers room and started talking about our star-crossed lovers鈥 said, 'Why don鈥檛 we try our own version of what I just did here in town, and let鈥檚 make it ours?'鈥�
The star-crossed lovers in the show are Brandon and Callie, played by David Lambert and Maia Mitchell, respectively. ABC is currently airing season three of The Fosters, about a multi-ethnic family made up of foster and biological teenage kids being raised by two mothers; episode 20 will air March 28.
