News The Front Page鈥檚 John Goodman Stops by The Late Show The Golden Globe-winning actor visited Stephen Colbert to talk about his work on Broadway and his upcoming movie, Patriots Day.

Archetypal burly man John Goodman (Dan Conner on Roseanne and The Big Lebowski鈥檚 Walter Sobchak) plays blundering Sheriff Hartman in The Front Page at Broadway鈥檚 Broadhurst Theatre, alongside Nathan Lane, John Slattery, Jefferson Mays, Holland Taylor, and more.

Turns out, this role is demanding on his signature sound. 鈥淚t wears on my voice, unfortunately,鈥 said Goodman of the role during his appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, 鈥渂ut every once in a while I go to a doctor and she give me prednisone, which is a steroid.鈥

Goodman actually got his start in children鈥檚 theatre. 鈥淢y first professional show was Rumpelstiltskin,鈥 said Goodman, something that he and Colbert share. (The late-night host began building sets for a separate production of the children鈥檚 fable.)

Next up, Goodman will play another law enforcement official, albeit a more respected and hard-hitting one. Patriots Day opens January 13, 2017, and chronicles the story of the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing. Goodman plays Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis; the film also stars Mark Wahlberg, Melissa Benoist, and Michelle Monaghan.
