Mayes recently played Rose in Yorktown Stage's production of Gypsy, the multi-award winning musical featuring music by , lyrics by , choreography by and book by .
The Harbor Lights staging will open Aug. 7 and continue through Aug. 16 at the St. George Theater. Bill Castellino (Cagney) directs, and and will choreograph.
The cast will also feature Emmy nominee (One Life to Live, Hairspray) as Electra, as well as Broadway vets Mimi Quillin (Sweet Charity, Ragtime) and Patti Mariano (42nd Street, Full Monty) as Tessa Tura and Mazeppa, respectively. Anthony Johnson, Heidi Friese, Michael Marotta and Samantha Bruce are also among the cast.
"The Harbor Lights Theater Company is honored to be producing this all-time classic, Gypsy, at the historic St. George Theater. Gypsy is widely considered one of the greatest musicals of all time," said artistic director Tamara Jenkins in a statement.
The musical is loosely based on the 1954 memoirs of , the famous striptease artist. It tells the story of Madame Rose, the "backstage mother," and her daughter Louise, trying to emerge from Rose's shadow to become a star.
