Video Video: Tony Winner Adrienne Warren Shares Her WNBA Dreams

On a March 31 visit to Late Night with Seth Meyers, Warren shared her early athletic aspirations.

In another life, Tony winner Adrienne Warren could've been killing it on the court instead of on the stage.

On a visit to Late Night with Seth Meyers March 31, Warren shared her childhood WNBA aspirations, which were dashed by her only growing to 5'5". "I was in middle school, and I got hurt playing ball. This girl, she was six foot, and she rebounded over me, and gave me a concussion. It was a whole to-do. And my dad looked at me and was like, 'I don't know, champ. I think you might鈥擨 think you might be done.' So then I took theatre very seriously, but I'd wanted to go to University of Tennessee, play for Pat Summitt. I went to the Women's Final Four every year. My parents are coaches. It was just what I wanted to do in life."

Warren's naturally competitive spirit aligns nicely with that of Cathy Hiatt, the character she is now playing in The Last Five Years opposite Nick Jonas at the Hudson Theatre. Warren takes to the pressure of premiering the beloved role on Broadway very seriously.

"The show is so famous, and people love it so much," Warren explained to Meyers and his audience. "It's been about 25 years... I didn't actually realize it'd never been on Broadway before. I had to check myself and say, 'Wait a minute. This is huge.' People love it because it is such a niche show, and people have loved it for so long. It's really special to be a part of it, and finally bring it home where it belongs on Broadway."
