Jay Roach is directing the film that has a screenply by John McNamara, based on Bruce Cook's 1977 book "Dalton Trumbo," about the real-life Hollywood screenwriter who fought back against anti-Communist hysteria and blacklisting in the 1950s.
The film, which is scheduled for release Nov. 6, is produced by Michael London and his Groundswell Productions.

A play, which is unrelated to the film project, also titled Trumbo, played Off-Broadway in 2003-04. Created by the late screenwriter's son, Christopher Trumbo, the play was culled from the letters of the legendary blacklisted screenwriter. Numerous actors starred in the Off-Broadway production, including , , , , , , , , Michael Richards and .
