New York City Ballet principal dancer Tiler Peck has been a part of the holiday classic The Nutcracker for 18 years. This year she performs in two different versions: George Balanchine鈥檚 at the David H. Koch Theatre and the Disney+ original special, the latter entitled The Hip Hop Nutcracker.
Inspired by the live stage version, The Hip Hop Nutcracker is co-created by Jennifer Weber, choreographer of Broadway鈥檚 & Juliet and KPOP. The updating of Tchaikovsky鈥檚 holiday ballet sets the action in the streets of New York City at a New Year鈥檚 Eve block party.
鈥淏eing a ballerina isn't just one thing, and I think that's what's incredible about this version. You get to see so much of my versatility and just the dynamics of what a ballerina can be,鈥� shares Peck, who plays the role of the Toy Ballerina in the special now streaming on Disney+.
