New York City Ballet has announced its 2025-26 season, which will feature four world premieres, two company premieres, and 41 additional works from the company's repertoire across 21 weeks of performances at Lincoln Center's David H. Koch Theatre.
The season will open September 16 with a program celebrating the company's co-founding choreographer George Balanchine, featuring three of his ballets: Donizetti Variations, set to selections from Donizetti's opera Don Sebastian; Ballade, set to music by Gabriel Faur茅; and Balanchine's one-act version of Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake.
The company's annual Fall Fashion Gala will be held on October 8, featuring a world premiere by Jamar Roberts, featuring costumes by Dutch fashion designer Iris van Herpen. The gala will also include performances of Gianna Reisen's Composer's Holiday, with costumes by Virgil Abloh; and William Forsythe's Herman Schmerman Pas de Deux, with costumes by Gianni Versace.
Justin Peck's Heatscape, originally created for the Miami City Ballet, will have its NYCB debut September 26. Set to music by Bohuslav Martin暖, the ballet features designs by street artist Shepard Fairey. A new work by Justin Peck, with further details to be announced, will have its world premiere in January. The final two world premieres in the season, by NYCB Artist in Residence Alexei Ratmansky, and NYCB Principal Dancer Tiler Peck, will take place in February and May respectively. The Tiler Peck piece, her second work created for the company, will premiere as part of the company's Spring Gala on May 7.
George Balanchine's The Nutcracker will return for its annual holiday engagement November 28-January 4. Along with Balanchine's Swan Lake, and a revival of Peter Martins' The Sleeping Beauty in February, all three ballets composed by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky will be seen this season.
Other notable programs include a Balanchine-Americana program, featuring Square Dance, set to music by Vivaldi and Corelli; and Western Symphony, set to traditional American melodies as arranged and orchestrated by Broadway orchestrator Hershey Kay. The spring season will include a revival of Balanchine's Symphonie Concertante, last performed by the company in 1952, alongside Balanchine and Jerome Robbins' setting of Stravinsky's Firebird, with designs by Marc Chagall. The spring season will also feature the company premiere of Christopher Wheeldon's Continuum, set to music by Gy枚rgy Ligeti. Other choreographers featured in the season include August Bournonville, Ulysses Dove, Edwaard Liang, Lar Lubovitch, and Alysa Pires.
The season will conclude with Balanchine and Danilova's setting of Delibes' 颁辞辫辫茅濒颈补, which tells the story of a village youth, Franz, who falls in love with a girl named 颁辞辫辫茅濒颈补, not realizing that she is, in fact, a remarkably lifelike automaton. NYCB Principal Dancer Megan Fairchild will give her farewell performance May 24, dancing the role of Swanilda in 颁辞辫辫茅濒颈补.
