News Will Broadway Get a Piece of My Heart? Bert Berns' Children Aiming to Transfer Musical Piece of My Heart, the new musical based on the life and songs of legendary songwriter Bert Berns � which concluded its extended Off-Broadway run Sept. 14 � is eyeing Broadway.

According to Deadline.com, siblings Brett and Cassie Berns are hoping for support from Paul McCartney (whose company, MPL Music Publishing, administers the Bert Berns catalogue) on a $9 million move to Broadway. A spring 2015 Broadway opening would coincide with a documentary produced by Brett and Cassie Berns that includes extensive interviews with many of the people Berns helped turn into stars.

Representatives for the recent Off-Broadway production have not yet responded to °ëµºÌåÓý.com's request for comment. 

Featuring a book by and direction and choreography by , Piece of My Heart � one of Berns' most well-known songs � began previews June 25 and officially opened July 21.

The cast included (Mamma Mia!) as Bert Berns; Drama Desk nominee (Elf) as Jessie, the fictional daughter of Berns who is determined to uncover her father's past; Theatre World Award winner (Catch Me If You Can) as Berns' wife, Ilene; Joseph Siravo (The Light in the Piazza) as Wazzel; (Memphis) as Young Wazzel; Tony Award nominee (Passing Strange) as Candace; (Memphis) as Hoagy; and (Jekyll & Hyde) as Young Ilene. The ensemble included , Teresa Gattison, , , Harris Milgrim, Michael Millan, , , , , and Mark Zeisler.

Berns was born in New York in 1929 and died of a heart attack at 38 years old. He made 51 pop-chart singles in seven years and became one of the most successful songwriters of the 1960s.

Piece of My Heart, according to press notes, "tells his remarkable story, once dubbed by Rolling Stone 'one of the great untold stories of rock and roll,' through his hit songs, which include 'Twist and Shout,' 'Tell Him,' 'I Want Candy,' 'Hang On Sloopy,' 'Cry, Baby' and many more."

Featuring a cast of sixteen and a band of eight, the musical's creative team also included (scenic design), (costume design), Ben Stanton (lighting design), (sound design), Charles G. LaPointe (hair and wig Design), Garry Sherman (music supervision and orchestrations), (music direction) and Telsey + Co. (casting).

Merged Work Productions and executive producer produced.
