Playwrights Jocelyn Bioh (School Girls; Or, the African Mean Girls Play), Sylvia Khoury (Selling Kabul), and Bess Wohl (Small Mouth Sounds) are among Williamstown Theatre Festival's 2018 commissioned artists. Every summer, a number of artists develop new work through residencies and workshops in and around Williamstown.
In casting news, Hoon Lee has joined the cast of Seared by Theresa Rebeck; he replaces the previously announced Steven Pasquale, who withdrew for personal reasons.
As previously reported, WTF's 2018 Main Stage season will kick off June 26 with the world premiere of Douglas Carter Beane鈥檚 The Closet, inspired by Francis Verber鈥檚 Le Placard. The Mark Brokaw-helmed production will feature Matthew Broderick, Jessica Hecht, Brooks Ashmanskas, and Ann Harada. The season will also include Tony nominee Carmen Cusack, Tavi Gevinson, and more in a variety of productions, including a new musical and three world premieres.
The group of WTF commissioned artists also includes Benjamin Scheuer (The Lion), Sharyn Rothstein (By The Water), Max Posner (Judy), Halley Feiffer (Moscow Moscow Moscow Moscow Moscow Moscow), Zoe Sarnak (Afterwords), Marsha Norman (The Bridges of Madison County), Meghan Kennedy, Justin Levine, and Michael John LaChiusa (WTF鈥檚 R Shomon).
In addition to WTF鈥檚 commissioned artists, Basil Kreimendahl (Sidewinders), Donald Margulies (Dinner with Friends), PigPen Theatre Company鈥檚 (The Old Man and the Old Moon) Candis Jones (Name Calling), MaYaa Boateng, Michael R. Jackson (WTF鈥檚 2017 Playwright-in-Residence), Salty Brine (The Living Record Collection), Danny Mefford (Poster Boy), and Emmy Award winner Tom Fontana (The Spectre Bridegroom) will have residencies this summer.
