NEW YORK THEATRE WORKSHOP
At New York Theatre Workshop (NYTW), we work relentlessly to empower visionary theatre-makers and bring their work to adventurous audiences through productions, artist workshops and education and community engagement programs. We nurture pioneering new writers like Hammaad Chaudry and Nathan Alan Davis alongside powerhouse playwrights like Amy Herzog and Ayad Akhtar. We engage inimitable auteur-directors like Rachel Chavkin and Sam Gold and give invaluable support to tremendous talents like Lileana Blain-Cruz in the earliest days of their careers. We maintain decades-long relationships with legendary theatre-makers like Will Power, Ivo van Hove, Dael Orlandersmith and Caryl Churchill, whose work has shaped and continues to influence our very idea of what theatre can be.
Since our founding in 1979, we've produced over 150 fully-realized productions including Jonathan Larson's Rent; Tony Kushner's Homebody/Kabul; Doug Wright's Quills; Claudia Shear's Dirty Blonde; Rick Elice鈥檚 Peter and the Starcatcher; Glen Hansard, Mark茅ta Irglov谩 and Enda Walsh鈥檚 Once; and David Bowie and Enda Walsh鈥檚 Lazarus; Heidi Schreck鈥檚 What the Constitution Means to Me; Jeremy O. Harris鈥檚 Slave Play, and eight acclaimed productions directed by Ivo van Hove. NYTW鈥檚 productions have received a Pulitzer Prize, 25 Tony Awards and assorted Obie, Drama Desk and Lucille Lortel Awards. NYTW is represented on Broadway with Ana茂s Mitchell鈥檚 Hadestown developed with and directed by Rachel Chavkin and the recently announced Sing Street, based on the motion picture written and directed by John Carney, with a book by Enda Walsh, music and lyrics by Gary Clark & John Carney, directed by Rebecca Taichman.
But that鈥檚 not what we鈥檙e proudest of. We take the greatest satisfaction from the community we鈥檝e built, and the perspective-shifting experiences we鈥檝e delivered along the way. We think that theatre can bring people together, change the conversation, and have a profound impact. We feel fortunate to get to support it. 2050 ADMINISTRATIVE FELLOWSHIP DESCRIPTION
We鈥檙e now accepting applications for the 2025/26 Season 2050 Administrative Fellowship program 鈥� a sister program to our successful 2050 Artistic Fellowship, which supports emerging playwrights and directors. The fellowship represents one of several NYTW initiatives to address the economic barriers that may prevent talented individuals from pursuing careers in the theatre.
The 2050 Fellowship is named in celebration of the U.S. Census Bureau鈥檚 projection that by the year 2050, there will be no single racial or ethnic majority in the United States. This projection provokes thoughts at New York Theatre Workshop about the transformations that will take place in the American landscape鈥攖echnologically, environmentally, demographically, economically and artistically鈥攏ow and in the future. They are a catalyst for broader questions about the direction of our field. But we鈥檙e not waiting for the year 2050 to make the change we wish to see. Instead, we鈥檙e working to reflect our evolving and beautifully diversifying society now鈥攖o ensure there鈥檚 space for those who will lead us into the future to build the skills they need now.
The 2050 Administrative Fellowship program is designed to provide first-rate instruction and mentorship to professionals who are underrepresented in the field of theatre administration. The program runs from September 8, 2025 - August 21, 2026
As a 2050 Administrative Fellow, you will:
Commit to a yearlong part-time paid fellowship (20-30hrs/week, Monday-Friday) in one field of interest including Artistic Workshop, Development, Education & Engagement, and Marketing
Work directly with the department head and their team in the respective area of focus.
Attend a two-day intensive seminar where you鈥檒l be introduced to the fellowship program, meet NYTW staff, and begin to develop your fellowship goals and plans.
Take on significant responsibilities in your department, including day-to-day tasks and long-term collaborative and individual projects.
Participate in monthly seminar meetings to discuss your work, share ideas, meet other professionals in the field and receive specialized career-development training.
Participate in brown bag lunches with members of the NYTW staff and invited guests and attend industry networking and social events.
