Project: Touring Magic Production (Non-Union)
Tour Dates: October 2025 (4 Weeks)
Tour Locations: Midwest U.S., Northeast U.S., and Canada
Employment Type: Contract / Freelance
Compensation: Competitive (ranging between $1800 and $2300 per week DOE) plus travel, lodging, and per diem.

Overview:
We are seeking an experienced and visionary Artistic Director to lead the creative development and execution of a non-union, touring magic production running for three weeks in October 2025. The show will travel through multiple cities in the Midwest, Northeast United States, and select locations in Canada. This production blends stage illusions, theatrical storytelling, and dancing to deliver a memorable, immersive experience to audiences of all ages.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Execute the overall artistic vision, ensuring cohesion in tone, pacing, and visual storytelling
  • Collaborate with magicians, choreographers, designers, and technical crew to integrate all elements (e.g., lighting, sound, staging, illusions) into a seamless performance
  • Lead pre-show rehearsals and guide performance blocking that accommodates multiple venue types
  • Adapt staging and transitions for each venue while preserving creative integrity
  • Oversee performance quality and ensure consistency across all tour stops
  • Work directly with the director and tour crew to align artistic goals with technical/logistical realities
  • Problem-solve creatively under time and venue constraints
  • Maintain a positive, collaborative environment while managing cast and crew dynamics

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years directing experience in live theatrical or specialty entertainment (musical, immersive theater, magic experience is a plus)
  • Strong working knowledge of theatrical lighting and sound design, with the ability to collaborate effectively with tech teams and offer informed artistic suggestions that enhance the overall sensory experience of the show
  • Demonstrated ability to work with multidisciplinary teams under tight timelines
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills
  • Must be available for pre-tour prep and fully committed during the October tour
  • Valid passport and ability to travel within the U.S. and Canada

Preferred Experience:

  • Background in magic or experiential performance
  • Previous touring or road-show directing experience
  • Familiarity with non-union and union stage protocols and touring logistics
