Finance and Accounting Supervisor
Summary
TheaterWorksUSA (TWUSA) is seeking a motivated and self-directed individual with experience in bookkeeping, payroll, and theatrical accounting to join our team as a Finance and Accounting Supervisor. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the financial management of our organization as a hybrid position. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in nonprofit and theatrical accounting, excellent organizational skills, and comfortable managing multiple priorities.

Since 1967 we have been a trailblazer in the not-for-profit theater industry, with our repertoire of 141 literature 鈥� and history-based plays and musicals playing a leading role in the rise of theater for young audiences as an art form. We are proud to say that one hundred million children, educators, and families have joined us at the theater to enjoy titles ranging from classics like Charlotte鈥檚 Web and Freedom Train to contemporary favorites like Dog Man: The Musical and The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical.
Duties and Responsibilities
This position reports to the Managing Director. Specific duties of the Finance and Accounting Supervisor include but are not limited to the following:
路 Manage financial operations including bookkeeping, bill payments, and implementing processes based on best practices.
路 Ensure accurate and timely recording of financial transactions and maintain comprehensive financial records.
路 Maintain the general ledger (GL) chart of accounts and class listing.
路 Perform monthly balance sheet reconciliation to ensure accuracy and completeness of financial data.
路 Daily classing and coding of deposits and payments.
路 Review all line items booked to the profit and loss statement (P&L) for appropriate class and account.
路 Manage quarterly payroll reconciliations.
路 Perform monthly bank reconciliations.
路 Knowledge of ticketing software and box office statements is preferable but not required.
路 Prepare and post other general journal entries and allocations as appropriate.
路 Collaborate with the team to develop and manage the annual budget, ensuring financial sustainability and effective resource allocation.
路 Monitor cash flow and cash management activities to support operational needs.
路 Utilize Excel and QuickBooks Online to perform financial analysis, track expenses, and maintain financial documentation.
路 Communicate financial information clearly and effectively to stakeholders, providing insights and recommendations for decision-making.
路 Stay updated on industry trends and regulations related to nonprofit accounting and financial management.
路 Contribute to special projects, grant applications, and fundraising efforts as needed.
Preferred Qualities and Requirements
路 Bachelor's degree in finance, Accounting, or a relevant field.
路 Minimum of 3 years of experience in accounting, managing an organization's finances, and preferably in the performing arts industry.
路 Expertise in Excel and QuickBooks Online for financial analysis, data management, and reporting.
路 Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple time-sensitive priorities.
路 Commitment to providing excellent client service and working collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
路 Outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal.
路 Proficiency with Microsoft Suite is desirable.
路 Enthusiasm for TWUSA鈥檚 mission to create exceptional, transformative theater for young and family audiences is required.
Compensation and Location
Salary range is $60,000 to $65,000 annually. Benefits include health, voluntary dental and vision, 401k retirement, and commuter benefits. TheaterWorksUSA offers a hybrid work environment, with time spent in the NYC office and remotely.
