BREAKDOWN
INCIDENT AT OUR LADY OF PERPETUAL HELP
SYNOPSIS: Set in 1973, this play is a wild and tender comedy that focuses on the cash-strapped O鈥橲hea family and especially their 19 year old daughter Linda, whose gift for storytelling turns into a crisis of biblical proportions!
SEEKING:
Linda O鈥橲hea (Female, 19 years old) Linda is highly intelligent, caring, and curious. She alternates between thinking that she knows everything and thinking that she knows nothing. Responsible, practical, and rarely impetuous.
Josephine 鈥楯o鈥� O鈥橲hea (Female, late 40s early 50s) Jo juggles more plates than Cirque du Soleil. A great mom who defines multi-tasking. She is also a little more emotional and prone to outbursts than usual for a variety of reasons.
Theresa 鈥楾erri鈥� Carmichael ( Female, late 50s) Terri is definitely going through a rough patch, but she is not a depressive. She is funny, sarcastic, and hides her feelings with her quick wit.
Becky O鈥橲hea (Female, 13 years old) Becky is an unusual child. Bright and verbal 鈥� full of energy and a huge imagination. She speaks quickly, like the characters in the black and white movies that she loves, like 鈥淗is Girl Friday鈥�
Mike O鈥橲hea (50s)/Father Lovett (50s)/ Betty Heckenback (50s)
Mike O鈥橲hea Mike is loud, loyal, and single-task-oriented. His definition of father is: Breadwinner and disciplinarian. Lousy listener.
Father Lovett is an old school Catholic priest. Egotistical, imperious, and pampered. Unused to any kind of pushback from parishioners, or anyone else, for that matter.
Betty Heckenback is a homely, judgmental, middle-aged woman who is always sticking her nose into other people鈥檚 business.
