SEEKING:

NOTE: All characters are Black American and/or of African descent. Actors with great comedy skills and access to West African accents are especially encouraged to submit.

[FALSTAFF] He/him. Late 40s-50s. Black. American, the neighborhood trickster. Harlem born and bred. He was hot sh*t on the block for two weeks鈥wenty years ago. Outrageously boastful and vain, he still considers himself the man, the myth, the legend of 116th Street. He has an inexplicable lover man charm, sharp wit, and a block boy arrogance that works for him around fifty percent of the time. A boisterous, mischievous and cowardly con artist, constantly chasing after his favorite indulgences: big money, beautiful women, booze and a snack. A comedic powerhouse, excelling on heightened language and physicality.

[MADAM NKECHI FORD] She/her. 40s. Nigerian, an entrepreneur and laundromat owner. Clever,
glamorous, resourceful and self-assured. A cool-headed schemer who does not have time for men鈥檚 shortsighted foolishness. Loyal, true and steadfast, but not without bite and humor. She would be a fan favorite in the Real Housewives of 116th Street franchise, unflinchingly confident as she teaches these boys a hard lesson via some humiliating hijinks with her best friend
MADAM EKUA PAGE. Vivacious, strong, independent and front-footed, she鈥檚 the one to light the match while MADAM EKUA PAGE fans the flame. And they鈥檒l be laughing the whole time! Wife to a misguidedly jealous MISTER NDUKA FORD.

[MADAM EKUA PAGE] She/her. 40s. Ghanaian, a socialite. 116th Street鈥檚 favorite diva. Sweet,
warm, funny and deceptively cunning. A proper lady, dressed to the nines and a trusted wife to
MISTER KWAME PAGE, she is taken aback by FALSTAFF鈥檚 audaciously flirty letter and immediately teams up with her best friend and fellow letter recipient MADAM NKECHI FORD, to teach this man a humiliating lesson. If her best friend MADAM FORD lights the flame, it is MADAM PAGE delightfully
fanning it and cackling as it grows. She has a taste for mischief and can play along with the best of them. She is a loving mother, fiercely protective of her daughter and only wants the best for her.

[MISTER NDUKA FORD] He/him. 40s. Nigerian. A successful businessman and a well-respected
neighbor, MISTER FORD has status, financial security and unfortunately, the capacity for ferocious jealousy. A proud man who is the latest victim to FALSTAFF鈥檚 latest chaotic con, causing his mind to spiral. He will go to ridiculous lengths to uncover the truth about his wife鈥檚 potential infidelity with Harlem鈥檚 most boastful and deceitful bachelor. His paranoia will only encourage his wild manic behavior. The dramatic straight man in a comedy of tricksters, excelling on heightened language and physical comedy. Tongue-and-cheek.

[MISTER KWAME PAGE] He/him. 40s. Ghanaian, well-intentioned and kind. Husband to MADAM EKUA PAGE and father to ANNE PAGE. Warm, confident, tenderhearted and easy going. A respected family man and a good-natured mediator amidst 116th Street鈥檚 neighborhood chaos. Reasonable and always down for a laugh. A devoted and trusting partner; a sharp contrast to the turmoil his best friend MISTER NDUKA FORD is causing in his marriage. But he is not without his faults, though he can see through his friend鈥檚 jealousy, he cannot see past his own imagined ideas for his family鈥檚 future. He believes that securing ANNE a sensible and practical match is an act of parental love, dismissing the love match she actually desires. He favors security, until his daughter opens his eyes to new possibilities.

[ANNE PAGE] She/her. 20s. Ghanaian, the beautiful ingenue. An intelligent, deeply earnest young woman with a strong sense of self, well beyond her years. A dutiful and loving daughter to MADAM EKUA PAGE and MISTER KWAME PAGE. She is the object of many people鈥檚 affections due to the beauty that shines from within her. A gorgeous woman at the center of many men鈥檚 attention, but she is completely disinterested in their misguided romantic attempts. She inherited her mother鈥檚 beautifully sharp responses to people鈥檚 foolishness and is not easily impressed; her sweetness and open heartedness is reserved for the people who deserve it. She has found true love in FENTON, a union she hopes will gain her parents鈥 approval.

[DOCTOR CAIUS] He/him. 30s-40s. Senegalese, the flashy neighborhood doctor. A French speaking West African doctor who, even though he鈥檚 lived in this neighborhood for years, is still working on his mastery of the English language, all the while adhering to a very, potentially put-upon, French-ish accent. Prickly, grand and easily offended, he has a quick fuse and even sharper tongue. While he is known to be huffy and irritable, his position as the respected neighborhood physician makes him

MADAM EKUA PAGE鈥檚 top choice for her daughter鈥檚 hand in marriage. In his mind, he is the singular choice for ANNE PAGE and does not want anyone else claiming his bride, even if he himself is discovering that love and attraction is a colorful spectrum. This is a role for a comedic powerhouse, excelling on heightened language and physicality.

[PASTOR EVANS] He/him. 30s-40s. Liberian, the loving neighborhood pastor. Smart, quiet-tempered and generous of spirit. 116th Street鈥檚 resident peacekeeper, clergyman and Sunday school teacher. Acommunity elder invested in bettering his community and sometimes the small indulgences of block gossip. Much like his neighbors, he loves to be in the middle of all the action, including guiding anervous SLENDER through his arranged courtship with ANNE PAGE, much to the chagrin of
DOCTOR CAIUS.

[MAMA QUICKLY] She/her. 40s-50s. Nigerian, the fun-loving/scheming 鈥淎untie鈥 of the block.
Talkative, lovingly meddlesome and always doing the most, this woman almost always has her nose in someone else鈥檚 business. Spunky, rebellious and spirited. DOCTOR CAIUS鈥檚 assistant and the neighborhood鈥檚 defacto messenger for hire to ANNE PAGE, she is always on the move. More clever than often given credit for and funnier than she鈥檚 aware of, she has ANNE PAGE鈥檚 suitors eating out of the palm of her hand, each sliding her cash in the hopes of their romantic success. Unfortunately, these messages often get crossed as her English comprehension can get a little shaky as action ramps up. A kooky opportunist with a heart of gold. A comedic powerhouse, excelling on heightened

[SHALLOW] He/him. 40s-60s. Nigerian, the well-intentioned uncle of SLENDER. Kind, affable and just a little bit nosy, though he hides it under his elevated neighborhood status as the block鈥檚 very own Justice of the Peace. A well respected elder in his community and a family friend to MADAM and MISTER PAGE. A schemer for love and marriage, he proposes and encourages SLENDER鈥檚 courtship with ANNE PAGE, foolishly guiding his nephew through this romantic pursuit.

[FENTON/SIMPLE] She/they. 20s. FENTON: Ghanaian, honest and pure. A kind-hearted, decent
person who loves ANNE PAGE with their whole heart. She wants to marry her, build a life together on their little piece of the block, but knows she is not the favored suitor by MADAM and MISTER PAGE. She is not the match this traditional Ghanaian family anticipated for their sweet Anne. SIMPLE: Black, American, errand runner and hustler. Full of swagger and youthful idiocy, they have all the personality of a seasoned swindler, but none of the skill. A member of FALSTAFF鈥檚 crew, but primarily answers to SLENDER. A bit of a space cadet, but a straight up legend in their own mind. Able to switch between American and West Africans accents.

[PISTOL/SLENDER] He/him. 20s-30s. PISTOL: Black, American, Falstaff鈥檚 minion. A wannabe
hustler in FALSTAFF鈥檚 inner circle, but with a greater sense of reality than the other members of his cohort. Hungry to get ahead, he didn鈥檛 know any better than to attach himself to this motley crew. A likable opportunist with an impulse for honesty. SLENDER: Nigerian, a nervous but sweet nephew to SHALLOW. Gentle, earnest and a little lost, but trying to make his family proud. A kind soul who鈥檇 prefer not to be perceived, but is now spotlit as ANNE PAGE鈥檚 potential suitor by their meddling, but well-intentioned family members. A little helpless when it comes to women and matters of the heart, he understands ANNE is beautiful, but is uncertain about what exactly he should do with that information, often turning to his uncle, SHALLOW, to guide him. Able to switch between American and West Africans accents.

[ENSEMBLE] All genders, 20s-40s, Black. ENSEMBLE includes NAFI, THE HAIR BRAIDING LADY
(She/her) and CHIAGOZIE (He/him). The role of Chiagozie is gender flexible and may be renamed Chidiadi. We are looking for expressive, funny, and flexible actors who can help build out our modernday Harlem. We鈥檙e excited to meet actors with West African drumming and rhythmic experience to further expand the city鈥檚 soundscape on stage. Actors who share experiences within the African diaspora and have access to West & East African dialects/accents are encouraged to submit.
