LITTLEBOY/LITTLEMEN

CASTING CONSIDERATIONS:

Actors should have a deep understanding of Latinx identity and the nuances of cultural background, particularly within Nicaraguan and Miami communities.

Performers with a strong command of language and rhythm 鈥� as the play blends poetry, movement, and music 鈥� are encouraged to submit.

Must be comfortable with fast-paced dialogue and emotionally intense scenes.

A background in devised theater, spoken word, or music is a plus.

SEEKING:

[F脥TO PALOMINO] Age: 20s. Ethnicity: Nicaraguan, Afro-Latinx/Black. Gender: Man. Occupation: Poet, Street Performer. Description: F铆to is a passionate and charismatic young man who makes his living performing poetry in the streets. He is bold, expressive, and full of life, using rhythm, humor, and movement to engage an audience and with the world. His art is his way of survival, resistance, and self-definition. He clashes with his older brother over his unconventional path but remains determined to carve out a future on his terms. Notes: The role requires: Strong physicality and stage presence; Spoken word performance skills; The ability to transition between humor and raw emotion; Musicality and a sense of rhythm (experience with live/solo performance is a plus); Will double as Miss Clark, a boisterous and condescending female clerk.

[BASTIAN MONTEYERO] Age: 30s. Ethnicity: Nicaraguan, White-Passing Latinx. Gender: Man. Occupation: Telemarketer. Description: Bastian is the responsible, pragmatic older brother. He works long hours at a call center, pushing to change his life and distance himself from their complicated past. He wants stability, security, and control over his future, leading him to resent F铆to's artistic pursuits. A former dreamer, he struggles between tough love and deep care for his brother. He believes his assimilation in this country will free him from prejudice and racism. Notes: The role requires: Strong dramatic presence and comedic timing; The ability to transition between a grounded, naturalistic acting style and absurdism; Ability to convey internal conflict and emotional restraint; Will double as Menocal, a Cuban, white-passing cop with a god complex. MORE ON THE TERM WHITE-PASSING: A White-passing Latinx person is someone of Latin American descent who has lighter skin and features that align more closely with Eurocentric beauty standards, allowing them to be perceived as white in specific contexts. This "passing" can afford them privileges that darker-skinned or visibly Indigenous, Afro-Latinx or mixed-race Latinx individuals may not receive, such as less racial discrimination or different social treatment. However, their identity as Latinx remains, and their cultural background, experiences, and how they navigate the world can be complex. In the case of littleboy/littleman, Bastian is described as White-passing, which suggests that, while he is Nicaraguan, his appearance allows him to blend in more quickly in certain spaces or be perceived differently than his darker-skinned brother, F铆to. This difference plays an important role in the tensions and themes of the play, especially about identity, privilege, and assimilation.
