DESCRIPTION

Focus Lighting, a fast-paced, innovative, and award-winning architectural lighting design firm based in New York City, has an immediate opening for a full-time Technical Director. This is an extraordinary opportunity for a candidate that is intelligent, energetic, and who is eager to contribute to the creation of unique, world-class architectural projects (see some of our work at ).

• Offer support for several aspects of our internal design process including:
  • Working directly with designers and project managers to come up with mockups
  • Assist with carpentry/soldering and painting as needed
  • Assist with overseeing material production on our in-house laser cutter
  • Provide assistance on job sites as necessary
  • Purchasing materials/equipment as necessary
• Set and enforce safe-use guidelines for equipment including a full wood shop and rigging system
• Routinely perform maintenance on employer owned equipment including intermittent building maintenance
• Experience with electrical wiring and/or lighting control systems a plus

The successful candidate will have the following:

• 5+ years of professional experience as a technical director, theatrical lighting crew head or theatrical scene shop crew head
• Ability to read construction drawings including electrical plans
• Demonstrated ability to multi-task in a fast moving environment.
• Excellent attention to detail.
• Organized, methodical and able to work to deadlines and targets with strong interpersonal skills.
• Experience in AutoCAD and Revit preferred
• Experience using Outlook preferred
• Ability to carry out tasks on Adobe creative suite, particularly in Photoshop.
• Willingness to learn and adapt role to best benefit the business.
• Must be able to lift, move, pull, or push items that weigh up to 75 pounds

Our office is located in Harlem and is a busy, yet very creative, exciting, and friendly environment. This is an office-based position and local and domestic travel may be required. Benefits are provided, including paid vacation, medical and dental insurance, and 401(k). The salary range for this position is between $70,000 and $80,000 per year.
