The O鈥橬eill opened, as the Forrest Theatre, in 1925. Named for Edwin Forrest, one of America鈥檚 first great classical actors, the theatre was produced by the Shuberts and designed by Herbert J. Krapp. Under new management, the venue became the Coronet Theatre in 1945. In 1959, it was renamed in honor of playwright Eugene O鈥橬eill, who died six years prior.
The Book of Mormon, winner of 9 Tony Awards庐 including Best Musical, is the brainchild of collaborators Trey Parker and Matt Stone, five-time Emmy Award庐-winning creators of 鈥淪outh Park,鈥� and Robert Lopez, two-time Academy Award winner for Best Original Song from the musicals Frozen and Coco and Tony Award庐-winning co-creator of Avenue Q. Broadway鈥檚 The Book of Mormon is now playing at the Eugene O鈥橬eill Theatre.
SYNOPSIS:A pair of mismatched Mormon missionaries, one serious and dedicated and the other socially awkward yet well meaning, are sent to Uganda to convert citizens to the Mormon religion.
