Maxine Elliott's Theatre

Maxine Elliott鈥檚 Theatre was built in 1908 and located at 109 W. 39th Street, designed by architects Marshall & Fox. It featured See America First, a musical featuring Cole Porter鈥檚 first complete Broadway score. Later, it showcased a young Katharine Hepburn in the play Art and Mrs. Bottle. Other notables who graced the Maxine Elliott鈥檚 Theatre stage included Helen Hayes in Coquette and Ethel Barrymore in The Constant Wife. The venue later housed Lillian Hellman鈥檚 The Children鈥檚 Hour. In 1956, Maxine Elliott鈥檚 Theatre was a CBS broadcasting studio at the time it was demolished.
